| What do we have left? 14 days until Christmas, which means, 12 more kettle days!!! 14 more if we decide to ring the two days after Christmas. Last two days have been doozies, the 7:30AM-8:30PM days, make my body ache. Did get to sneak off to see Allison in her Musical Drama performance tonight from 6-7. Nice to be able to make both of her recitals this year. The best is yet to come with the Corps play...Allison has one of the lead roles, Nurse Philpot... it's nice that my girls have big parts in the play, I usually try to pick the other kids, but I have been wrong in that, as my kids feel left out, as I try to make other kids feel special.....so this year, I had four other judges help with the auditions, and it was all based on talent and ability. Looking forward to ER tonight, my favorite show for I think 14 years now!!! Nite | | |
| Taking the day off tomorrow, all day.....bought a real tree today, so the girls and I will decorate the house when they get home from school. Been busy with the usual, will use bullets, as a list for me mentally: - working on the Christmas play, doing Dr. Newheart..it is one of my favorites, did it in Santa Monica when we were cadets, you should check it out, it is wonderful
- Took our singing company to the groundbreaking ceremony of our new homeless shelter yesterday, it was a lot of work (30 kids, uniforms, lunch, rides, etc), and I really did not want to do it (3 pm on a Sunday!!) with so much other stuff, but the kids were great and they had soo much fun.The best part of the day, was when our group of kids, and soldiers were asked to go to the four corners of the block and claim the land, building, etc for the Lord....i love to hear the kids pray
- I think we are almost half way through kettles and I still am enjoying it, we had 3 ringers in church yesterday.
- We officially started songsters tonight, and will sing on Sunday. While sitting at the count table, we began to sing christmas carols, it was amazing how well they sing, and already in 4 parts....have a leader and everything, praise the Lord!!
- Received a hefty grant for our kitchen remodel, and $5000 for food to help with the after school program and day camp.....PTL!!! We serve over 4000 meals a month. It will be nice to have a walk in freezer, dishwasher, a few more ovens!!! Writing grants is hard on your self esteem, you only get like 2 out of 10, lots more no's than yessssss
- Nursing home gift distribution this Sunday, have seven homes, so we will break into six groups, as two homes only have around 60 people each, each group has their own guitar player which is real helpful.
- Sunday evening is the Tucson City Employee Christmas Party, grateful that the city coordinators are in charge of this
- Trying to plan our vacation for February....any cheap, sunny ideas?
I think that is all for now...praying for all my fellow officers, and cadets involved in the season that IS THE REASON. | | |
| I love kettles, and almost everything about them. I love the fact that we are allowed to work with 60-80 people every year. I love that we meet every morning at the center, drink coffee, eat doughnuts, share about the previous days adventures, and read scripture and pray as everyone heads off in the four vans... I love when the 15 or so volunteers start arriving to count kettles. I love that a different corps member prepares the evening meal for the volunteers, their kids, security, the drivers, the babysitters, etc. around 30 every night. I love that they have signed up to share a devotion after the meal, right before the kettles come in. I LOVE the fellowship around the table until 7:30-8. I love that we sing the doxology at the end of each night. I love that the kettle workers are getting to know my savior, and the power of prayer. We were forecast for rain, all day Wed. It rained until 7:30am on Wed, the bellringers arrived, and we prayed a selfish prayer, that God would hold the rain back until 4:30 or 5. The skies opened up at 4:40 PM.....and non believing workers are now interested in this God we are praying to..... It is a lot of work, and I get tired, and grouchy, and somedays I don't think I can handle one more problem...and I see that the workers are often more blessed than I....they get to work, when no one else would take a chance on them, they get money to help with their Christmas, they get the esteem that comes with a job well done, they have people tell them how much they love what The Salvation Army does for people, and they get to collect money for Gods work....like temple workers counting the tithes, and grain offerings that come in....it is a Holy job.... | | |
| Last week just winding down from the big weekend, and the wedding.Went to Corps Cadet retreat for friday and Saturday, and returned home on Sunday for church. Went to the nursing home yesterday afternoon and prayed one of our corps members' mother into the arms of Jesus....what a privilege we have.... Today we had an FOF dinner at our Corps with the candidates secretary and our dys, it was a good evening and I think our soldiers were challenged and encouraged. They have all received a personal call, but sometimes the world, and even best intentions speak and the call becomes quieted....it was good to fire them up again. So ready for tomorrow, with nothing on the schedule...just visiting with our wonderful mentors....have a blessed day tomorrow.... thank you for floating holiday's!!! | | |
| Today was a blessing. We enrolled 10 soldiers, 2 adherents, and 13 local officers. Sure was a great day. What was so incredible, is the families that came to witness the enrollments!!! We had 168 in church today.... I feel pressure to keep this going, so many people, so many needs, so many opportunities. I am very grateful for so many committed leaders, I pray that we continue in God's strength and will. Going to take a few afternoons off this week, Corps Cadet Retreat up at camp this weekend. Still can not believe that two weeks from Friday is the first day of kettles. Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the sabbath. | | |
